The ever debated question of "how to get backlinks"!

Well there are a few ways of creating backlinks worth trying.

Some backlinks could come to you, but they don't come by magic! They come because real people like what's in your site, because you've worked hard getting the content up. This has happened to me. Briefly, here are some tips on how to get backlinks the "natural" way. I must say here that without the help of the SBI! system I could not have managed this, and the consistent number 1 and 2 places in the Google search engine for my main keyowrd and some others too:

Bulid some high quality content with the proper use of keywords.
Involve others, not quite from the start, get some useful content up first.
This doesn't mean getting others to write stuff for you particularly. It means asking for small amounts of specific advise, making sure the people you ask know it's for a website and that they could get a mention! Those people will usually visit your website (so you get some traffic). If they like it they may visit again and bookmark you. They may tell their friends, colleagues and customers (some undoubtedly do). And some of them will link to you as well.Some do, and you can be pleasantly surprised when you've been building for a while that your site is already linked to!
Do the same when you need photos. Ask the enthusiasts, they will usually be very happy to help, you can offer them a link too, and they will be even more likely to return the favour. In my experience people with photos on your website are even more likely to bring you traffic and links than those who have given a little advice. And they like to go back to your site, which is now a little more relevant to them than it was before.
Contact people with good related, but not competing, websites directly, asking for a link swap. Using link exchange backlinks can be helpful too. A link exchange is where people register to say they are willing to exchange links, and what types of links they want. SBI! has a link exchange for its members, ensuring you can get in contact with people who are building websites to the same standards.

Now I know the above probably isn't the conventional response to "how to get backlinks", but, and especially for those enthusiastic about their niche, it's a lot more fun than the other methods of creating backlinks, which we will nevertheless have to consider. Consider some paid strategies for creating backlinks as you can afford them:

Use targeted advertising on high ranking sites relevant to your niche.

Consider getting a link from a Yahoo Directory Listing. Although the major search engines are generally against bought links they apparently like these ones! Someone at Yahoo will actually check out your website, so I suppose it's considered "quality controlled".

Consider making a press release with PRWeb and/or Majon, which will enables not only a keyworded press release but also gives you back links from their top rated web sites.
