Here's a sample internet marketing plan, to get started for free (see specific pages for more details).
Goal 1: to make break even, so your online ventures at least cost you nothing
-
Know what niche and products or services you will be marketing: your own, affiliate products or outsourced products (watch for good commissions or you will find it hard, and even then there may be competition for the best products) or third party advertising (such as Google Adsense, you need a lot of pages and visitors to make this work in a big way). If the products are your own then eproducts and services are obviously easier to deliver. These can be information products, software, audio, video or advertising services.
-
If you are not using a web host with keyword research tools (like SBI! have) then use an online tool, such as the Google keyword tool. There are others. WordTracker.com, for example, but it is not free (but they do have a free trial). You should be able to find a free tool on the web. Get your keywords sorted before you start on your web pages.
-
Make something unique and interesting about your web site. Don't spend too long making your site perfect, but keep it as good as you can, with some nice graphics, depending on the subject. Provide your visitors with useful information.
- Ping Google, Yahoo and a few other search engines.
- Install Google Analytics on your web pages to help them find you.
- Use a few viral eproducts if you can.
- Post a few articles with the major article directories, with links back to your site.
-
Use Squidoo to create links to your site and articles, and get traffic from other Squidoo users.
-
Bookmark your web pages (including the Squidoo pages and directory articles) with Delicious, Digg and StumbleUpon.
-
Comment on blogs that use the recent comments widget. Find relevant blogs using Google and try to find ones with a good PageRank.
Goal 2: to make a profit
-
Extend your website
-
Add a few more products if possible.
-
Keep on with stages 6-9 above.
Goal 3: to increase profits
Consider some paid strategies as you can afford them:
-
Submit your site to Yahoo Search Submit to help you get a better page ranking.
-
Use targeted advertising on high ranking sites relevant to your niche.
-
Consider getting a link from a Yahoo Directory Listing. Although the major search engines are generally against bought links they apparently like these ones! Someone at Yahoo will actually check out your website, so I suppose it's considered "quality controlled".
-
Consider making a press release with PRWeb and/or Majon, which will enables not only a keyworded press release but also gives you back links from their top rated web sites.
Remeber this is just a sample internet marketing plan, adjust your plan to fit your own business, and what you can afford in terms of time and money.
