what is google adsense?

If you are wondering just what is google adsense it's time to find out! Google Adsense is an ad-serving program. Now don't run away - I can hear you thinking errrr - a what?

Google Adsense places ads on your web site that make sense, in that they are relevant to your content. I've seen it called a form of contextual marketing, which just means it's “in context” - the ads match the web pages they are appearing near! Now you might be skeptical here bu it really does work! I tried on my horse genetics site and the adverts were really relevant, so I'm Skeptical no longer! (There was one exception, one advert in many, which I just specified that I didn't want: on a page where a keyword was dark spots, in relation to appaloosa horses I got an ad for some cream that reduces the appearance of dark skin spots on people. So a fair enough mismatch mistake I thought.)

Every time a visitor to your site clicks on an ad it makes you money. It seems to me that when someone buys it makes you somewhat more money. They aren't specific about what you earn, but it's easy to put up Adsense, you can do it on every page and then leave it. It then makes money on automatic - the more visitors you can drive to your site the more effective it is. One priviso though, you do need a reasonable web site before you can start putting adsense on, they do check it out before allowing you to put adverts up. Then after you've got Adsense on one site you can put it on others without them being "vetted" first.

Now you know what is google adsense I suggest you find out more about it - it's so easy to put up, and it does generate a good side income, depending on the number of visitors and pages you have.

google adsense strategies

Really google adsense strategies are just those you want to implement to get traffic to your website - plenty of which are on this website. Note though that Google AdSense only works with websites already indexed.

Here are a few suggestions to bear in mind when implementing Google Adsense:

  • Consider including pages about varying topics within your niche, using some variation in your keywords. Provide good quality and unique information on your web pages. This will give you a bigger variety of adverts, and encorage visitors to return.
  • Experiment with ad formats on your web page to see if this has any affect on income. Try to make the adverts unobtrusive, I like the larger skyscrapers on the right hand side of my page, and apparently Google thinks these are a good one to have too. They don't get in the way, but they are clearly visible. Look around their site for tips and advise on this. Place some adverts so they can be seen in the top section of your webpage, without scrolling down, but you don't have to confine them to there, or the visitor might think advertizing is all you do!
  • Try to "blend" the adverts in a bit, so they look and feel like part of your website.
  • Use Google channels and statistics to evaluate your performance regularly.
  • Do not use fraudulent, deceptive or sneaky methods of generating clicks on adverts:
    • don't use automated clicking programs or robots to generate clicks
    • don't use repeated manual clicks
    • Don't be clicking on your own ads
    • Don't trick or beg your visitors into clicking on your ads fraudulently

Here are a couple of other google adsense strategies:

1. Put up adsense on your RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds (these organize and stores news-like content). Google has introduced a  strategy known as AdSense for RSS.

2. Another of the google adsense strategies is to put up adsense on your Blogs. Blogs get indexed more easily and quickly than regular webpages. They can also be created much more cheaply than conventional websites.
